Leaving For Boot Camp: A Parents' Perspective
This week, I took a look back as our daughter began the journey of earning the title of United States Marine. Last year, early on a June morning, Sue and I took Holly to the MEPS station from where she would ship out for boot camp at Parris Island.

Anyone have a son who leaves August 1st for Parris Isl?
Well I dropped my son off at his recruiters office today and he got the bus for MEPS in Jax. I am very proud of him but will miss him like crazy.

Our son left at 4:45 am to MEPS and should've already arrived in San Diego. Haven't received the 30 second promissed arrival call. Hate waiting.

Son decided to become a Marine
Today we celebrated my son's 19th birthday and as of noon today he said those all important words to his recruiter, "Gunny I want to be a United States Marine". He will be going to MEPS next week to begin his processing.

Son Departed for PI Oct 24th 2011
My son has been in the delayed entry program for 5 months. I was so ready for him to go, all he was doing was surfing and late nights. He was bored and ready to go as I was ready for him to go as well. Now I miss him so much.

My son turned 17 on April 12th and what he wanted to do was call the recruiter to get things moving. He was so determined that this is what he wanted. Now that day seems long ago. All the paper work and all seemed to never end.

My 18 yr old son just arrived at the aiport in San Diego. They are still waiting for the rest of the new recruits to arrive before they all head over to the base. He was so nervous as was I last night that I don't think he got more than two hours sleep.

Husband just left for bootcamp
My husband left Sept 7. He called me that night from the hotel. He said he would be leaving for MEPS the next day and then off to San Diego. I've been waiting for his call but haven’t received it yet. Hopefully I receive a letter soon.

I went to MEPS yesterday and watched and video recorded of my daughter swearing in. I am so glad I was able to be there is it was awsome!! It made me feel so much better seeing her and how happy she was.

Son left for PI on Monday October 24th, 2011
Reading all the comments from previous families really helps. Having an idea of what he is doing everyday is helpful to pass the time.
