I was 15 when I arrived at Parris Island in 1954. Only in the last few years have I realized what an accomplishment this was. During the 12 weeks of boot camp we lost about 8 or 9 to wash out. I wound up in the FMF at Camp LeJeune.

The summer of 1991, I was a recruit at Parris Island. 2nd Bn, Golf Co., PLT 2094. I had an excellent DI crew...tough, relentless, squared away and some of the finest men I have ever been around. Not a day goes by that I don't think about that experience.
