Before College
The Marine Corps is an excellent opportunity for students who want a college education but haven't begun pursuing it yet. Becoming a Marine after high school can instill the skills, confidence and character that make them even more successful in earning a degree after service.
An enlisted Marine’s education begins in Recruit Training after high school graduation. Recruit Training isn't just physical. It includes academic study of essential Marine Corps subjects, core values and practical skills like time management. The Marine Corps’ emphasis on learning and the recruits’ shared desire for success make Recruit Training an unmatched educational experience.
After Recruit Training, your Marine will undergo specialized training that teaches the skills necessary for the Marine Corps specialty (the term for a Marine's job) he or she will perform. Deployment and work in this specialty will instill a level of maturity and confidence you won't find in their peers.
The Marine Corps has many financial assistance programs, such as the GI Bill and Tuition Assistance, available to all Marines. For more detail, see our College Assistance page.
