Dear Kayla:

I think everything you are feeling is totally normal. You miss the man you love. But you know, it's all to make him a better man and a better person. And it's only temporary. He'll be back before you know it. Sometimes it's good to have a little space between each other it gives you time to grow as an individual and as a couple. You know how busy he must be and totally exhausted!

Think only positive thoughts. Don't let the silence get the best of you. Remember all the talks you guys had before he left. And remember how much he wanted this. Now do something for yourself Kayla while he's away. Maybe take some cooking classes or sewing classes. Then when he gets home you can show him what you accomplished for you while he was out obtaining his own acheivements. Set some short term goals, to get you through each month.

Write him a lot of positive letters, encouraging him to get through each day. Try and keep your letters up beat so he doesn't feel sad or frustrated. Tell him when he gets home that you'll have a surprise for him that you made and then you can show him what you learned. It will give him something to look forward to.

Stay strong Kayla. This is a really important time for both of you.. You can do it girl!!

I'll send happy thoughts your way,

April

My boyfriend left on Sunday March 10th but didn't leave for Parris Island until Monday. I miss him so much. We have been together for a year && 4 months && we use to be together every weekend. It's hard for me to see him go but I know he is doing it to better himself. By thinking about him becoming a better man that helps me get over missing him. Even though he is my best friend && I have no one to talk to except family I still try my best to think about it in a positive way. I have yet to receive a letter also but I know when I do it will be the sweetest thing. I am just ready for June 6th to get here so I can see him on family day. Then Graduation day June 7th. Just keep your head up. He is safe && doing a great deed. He misses you trust me but he also has a job to get done. Stay positive. It will be over in no time....(so everyone says)

Hi. My boyfriend just left for boot camp on the 11th. We have been together for 3 years, but I've been through this before. My boyfriend went to a military school for 6 months about a year/year and a half ago. It was really hard. From what I have heard, letters take a long time from boot camp. The moment they get there they are very busy. From what I understand, the first couple of letters will kind of be narrated for them. It won't be there handwriting and it won't say what you want to hear. They don't want their Marines to miss home quite yet so just hang in there. After a couple of weeks you'll get a sincere letter from him. I know it's very hard, but just try to stay occupied. Go on bike rides, start a scrapbook for him, hang out with your friends, and just be grateful you will see him on Graduation Day.
