You're in boot camp too

We weren’t really prepared for it nor did we truly understand the impact it would have on us when we watched our future Marine say good-bye. We didn’t realize that we were going to boot camp too. Only ours would be at home vigilantly searching the internet for answers to questions so many have asked before us. Watching and waiting for mail and hoping for a small envelope adorned with an eagle, globe and anchor - the senders name starting with RCT. With much love and respect I would like to welcome you to the family.

Your future Marine will live for your words of support, love, dedication, motivation and pride during their journey. Words that focus on the future and the blessings of all, nothing that would make them miss home any more than they already do.

You will not be forgotten in fact the love will build. For the parents all the messages and discussions you had as parent/child will be realized, the fog will be lifted and they will understand the things you had tried to convey. For the loved ones, you will be on their mind as soon as they lay their head down at night for this is the only time they have to think for themselves.

The hardest will be the first two weeks. When correspondence starts to flow you feel as if a weight has been lifted. The letters may vary from one extreme to another. Some will be of doubt, some will be of pain but overtime they will transform into letters of pride and determination. Through these letters you will witness a transformation from someone that may had had doubts of themselves into someone that knows they can do anything they put their mind too.

By this time you have grown too. And when you go to their graduation you will feel as if you graduated yourself. You feel stronger and have more pride than can be explained. You’ll walk taller and tell everyone you meet that your loved one is a Marine.

We may not have the title, but we are fearless.

We are the family of a Marine.

Thank you for your comment! I know from being on here that I'm not alone in my journey to be come the most knowledgeable about what my son is going through, and as I follow the phases he is currently experiencing, I feel as if I have also grown in strength. The strength to let go and know that the decision he made was the right one! He has made us very Proud and we look forward to seeing him at graduation! It's terribly hard to let go of your only child, or any child, but I take solice in the fact that he isn't alone. He may miss home and his family, but I also know that the bonds that he is building with his new "brothers" will be a strong one! To all service men and women, past, present and future, Thank you for your service to our country and for protecting the freedoms we all enjoy! God Bless you all!

You should have receive a letter from him with his address about ten days after his ship date. As far as him being a different person, yes this is true. He will be better, he will have good morales and be very structured about everything he does. Dont worry just support his decision to become a respected and honorable person and give him all of the support you can. he will become very home sick while in boot camp and he will I stress WILL be doubting his decision just tell him how proud you are of him and how proud you are to be his girlfriend and help him to make his life transition.. May God bless all of you and thank you for your support to him. The Marines are the future of our country.
