My boyfriend left for the Marines shortly after his 18th birthday back in august of 2011. This was what he dreamed of doing all his life, and he was out to follow his dreams. Bootcamp was hard for him, but getting letters from his family and I seemed to make it easier for him as he would say. After graduation, he came home for a week, and it was hard to say goodbye again when he left to California for school. He surprised eeryone by showing up a couple days before christmas to spend it with us. He returned to California on New Years to finish his schooling, and is now on his way to his next school. We are planning on visiting him in March for Spring Break. It feels good to be close to his famiy, who is super close and want the best for him. He is truely missed and we count down the days til the next time we get to hear from him.
Tips for during bootcamp:
Send him letters...about anything of course, just be careful, they may be read aloud. Send him letters as much as possible telling him how things are so he doesnt worry about the things happening back home. Remind him of how strong he is and not to giveup, and that he is followng his dreams. He will thank you later.
