Posting on behalf of my fiance...
This past Friday I had the honor of watching my soon to be step son graduate from Parris Island. It is truly amazing the amount of transformation this young man made. When I graduated from Parris Island, I knew I changed but never really knew or noticed the magnitude. I didn’t notice the transformation with the two guys I grew up with and graduated together. How would I, we went through it at the same time.
However, this time I was able to see the transformation from civilian to Marine. Before he was a fidgety, slightly slouched, a little high strung whose eyes constantly darted around. Rarely would he maintain eye contact or look me in the eyes while talking to me.
The time I spent with him before he left for Parris Island, I know he would make a great Marine and no problems making it through. Thursday for family day I saw a completely new person. Arrow straight stature that gave the perception of a foot of growth. Eyes focused and committed to what he was viewing, and his peripheral vision maintaining a constant awareness of his surroundings. No longer was his voice meek, timid and squeaky but deep with authority. His speech was absent of stutter and apprehension but clear, concise and confident. His body aged three months but his maturity and confidence is measured in years. I am truly proud to know him and of his accomplishments, not only as a fine young man but as a member of our Marine Corps family.
