My Son; getting ready to leave us

Posted By: Pamela Mainz 08-10-11

My son leaves for boot camp ito San Diego on Feb. 27th, 2011 but after reading some of these stories.... We'll be physically prepared for the possibility of him leaving earlier???? Notice I said physically no way I'd be mentally prepared anymore than I'll be prepared even for the Feb. 27th date.

I know you all have awesome kids but my son Kayd was a special gift from god in that he has always just been a great kid! I apparently did something right in raising him! You know the saying that God created teenagers so that you can be OK with them leaving because by teenage years they are driving you nuts and you sort of don't like them much?? WELL, this kid has done the total opposite on me.

He has begun to spend quality time with myself and husband and doing special little things for us??? Writing notes of how he loves us, bought me a necklace of a Mom & son embracing "for me to wear close to my heart while I'm thinking about him when he's gone"...... Need I go on? He even is spending great times with his twin 10 year old brothers who 6 months ago would have been good never to see one another ever again???

SO the Marines have already started to make an impression on him. He is spending time thinking about his future and about all the things that are important to him. I hear about how all of your kids come home and you can't believe the differences. WOW!

When any of you go to San Diego for graduation will you please write about where you did end up staying and if you wish you would have stayed someplace else? So on any hints and words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Anyone else have a son leaving Feb. 27, 2011 for San Diego?

Pam ~

Feb 27th is 2012 dear...you have 2011 that is past????

Ok so anyway I have gotten two form letters on the beginning of the 2nd week. One was a listing of his address Bn. Co. and the physical address. I think that on the first week they do the proper paperwork for their banking etc that the Marines set up, physicals, new nice new clothes to match that new haircut... lol on Friday of the week they arrive (from what I have read) they "test out" on that day and this decides with which unit and Platoon they will be with.

Anyway the second letter has the Platoon leaders name and his email ( that I will never use.).. and his graduation date.

I am writing letters to him everyday which helps me with my sanity and I feel that I am actually speaking right to him as I write it. I make sure I fill him in on his brothers activities and what is happening around the family and ALWAYS, ALWAYS end every letter with the statement of how proud I am of him and I love him. That is most important part to me....

Will keep you posted and please go onto the Marines website and the portion that has the week by week of the boot camp activities. This also helps with you including some information and questions in his letters....

Hope this helps you and I will keep posting. Till then

oorah..

Pam:

I am going to guess that your son is leaving Feb 2012? I wil tell you nothing will prepare you for that last phone call from him once he arrives in San Diego. My call came at 2:30 in the middle of the night. Hearing at first the Drill Srgt yelling at the recruits and them respond and my son reading word for word the prepared statement for them to read to you. This was the most awful, phonecall you will receive. The words I Love YOU mean so much at this time..that is how the call ends and you keep hearing the background responses. I cried so hard. The Marines will be good for him I need saying and I told Ryan to pray the Lords Prayer to help him get through. FAITH-- Put it in Gods hands cuz you have to go on with your life. MInd you this is my first week....I will help as much as I can. Good Luck to you and please know I will do my best.. yes we BOTH have raised Marines material.....I cant wait for my first letter.....

My Son just left yesterday. The 2:00am phone call this morning once again was followed with me crying myself to sleep once again. I know he is in good hands, I know he is a strong young man but assured him that prayers will be needed from him and for him. This Military mom thing is new to me... so post alot to help us through

Thanks alot

Hi Charlotte ~
I too am new to all of this and so happy to have heard about this site. I have learned so much from it.
I'm dreading those sleepless and sad times and even though he says he'll be fine and playing it tough I know my son well enough that he will be home sick and my heart aches even thinking about that. The hardest thing for me is to know that he'll never be home to stay again.......... Can't begin to tell you how I'll miss him. Please keep posting and since you'll be going through this before us, ship date to boot camp is Feb. 27th, 2011, please let us know if there is anything that comes up that you didn't know and wish you would have known? Words of wisdom???

Stay Strong Remember you raised a Marine!!!
