no phone call

Posted By: Caroline Hipp 06-14-11

I waited for my son to call last night to see if he made it OK, and still no phone call. He arrived on June 13th, Monday, as a parent that call was important to me. I hope that I hear from him soon. Caroline

Did you ever get a phone call? Hopefully by now you've received a letter. My son left early this morning and I've been waiting for a call as you did.

Yes, he finally called and said he sprained his ankle, and will be delayed in graduating til Sept 23rd. I was so nice to hear his voice. And I have received 2 letters also, so that is nice. Wish you and your son the best.

My Son finally called and he was able to talk a little, 'Mom, I sprained my ankle and I will be a week late in graduating". It was so nice to hear his voice even, since I did not get that initial call. At least I know he is OK. He arrived in San Diego June 13th.

The call came from a blocked number. I know some people have their phones set to not accept blocked numbers. When I saw it was blocked I know it was from him but I would have been really upset if I had my phone set to not accept a blocked number. The recruiters should tell us in advance that its blocked!

Hi,

How are you? My fiance arrived to OK on sunday and he called me twice from his hotel room and we talked for about 10 minutes. He said all the guys he met are so nice and they are all friends and maybe your son knows my fiance :) Well I am still waiting to get a letter from my fiance and I know he will write soon. If you ever want to talk do not hesitate :) They are doing something amazing and as long as they have our support we will all make it through this tough period in their lives.

Hi Haylee,
Maybe my son does know your fiance. Good luck to the both of you. On the news today Obama said that the troops are being pulled out of Afghanistan and I was so happy to hear that.

Hi,

Thank you so much darling :) I miss him so much but I am staying strong for the both of us. Yes I did see the news too about President Obama pulling out the troops. I was so happy and even thought that maybe my fiance won't have to go overseas when he is done with all his training :)

My son arrived at Parris Island on Monday, June 13th too, and I got a call but when I answered the phone it was dead air. My call was at 11pm. I texted the recruiter Tuesday and he said that was probably my son. I look forward to letters from him. I am so excited for his future, but it is a little scary too.

It is a little scary for me too. I am proud of my son and know that he will do well. Just not being able to talk to him very much is hard. I wish for you and your son the best of luck.

Our son left for Parris Island on June 6th and we never received a phone call. We checked with this recruiter and he did confirm he arrived safeyly. It's my understanding that several factors can have an effect on whether phone calls occur or not. You may want to check with his recruiter. He should know if he arrived OK.

Just found this website

http://www.recruitparents.com/

there is so much more valuable information for parents of recruits at boot camp. Highly enoucourage everyone to view this site. It has really helped me have a greater understanding of what is going on with my son while at boot camp.

Our son left on Monday the 13th too. We got our call around 10:20pm that night. It was not a personal kind of phone call at all. When I answered, all I could understand him to shout was "this is private Walt, blah blah blah, I love you good bye". It lasted less than 16 sec. and I didn't get to say a word to him. There was all kinds of shouting and barking of orders in the background and the sounds of people hurrying everywhere. It was not what I expected at all and hearing what I did was a reality check of what he doing and going through. I almost could have done without the call.

My son left for San Diego on the 13th also. Fortunately, my sister's son is a Marine and she prepared me quite well for that horrible call. My son called at 11:10 p.m. I was sleeping with both my cell and the house phone by the bed. He didn't even say the "I love you" part, it was just "bye" At least knowing that's the way it would be helped a little.

My son just shipped on Monday, July 25th and that evening around 11:50 I received that call as well. His call lasted 11 seconds and consisted of "This is Recruit Payne USMC, I have arrived at MCRD San Diego. The next time I contact you will be on Postal Mail so expect it around 2-3 weeks, I love you Good Bye." I heard lots of yelling and it was quite heartbreaking. I have a friend that is in the Airforce and I told him that they should not allow them to make that kind of call. I have it recorded and have heard every word over and over again since he left. God bless our recruits.
