My son will be leaving for Parris Island on 6/13/11 and I would like to know if there are any other parents that have a son/daughter leaving on that day. I would like to have someone to keep up with what is going on, and knows what I am going through. Just email me and share your bootcamp experience with me.

My stepson left for basic on June 13th also. He is in PLT 1068. Would love to meet someone else with family in the same platoon.

I got the first real letter from Robert today. He sounds like he is doing just fine. Sounds a little homesick but he will be ok!

Family
My Grandson graduated from Parris Island last November. It was quite an experience for all of us. He did really well and even said he enjoyed it. He loves the challenge, and the more difficult, the better! We, his family, of course, worried about him daily, but we got thru it by being there for each other and for him. Dont be alarmed if you dont get a lot of letters, they are so busy its hard for them to write at times. There is also another helpful support page at Parris Island YUKU...we met a couple of really nice people thru that site. Glad to find out about this one as well. I will be glad to talk to u anytime, would love to help anyway I can. We are all part of the Marine Family now!! Stay strong!!!

My son is leaving on 6/13 as well from South Florida. I would be happy to share the adventure of my son's training with another mom. I feel that he is as well prepared as possible due to his experience with the Delayed Entry Program but the reality of the first days on Paradise Island, freaks me out a little. It is such a lovely time of the year to be in the South Carolina lowlands!

My son went to bootcamp 9 months ago. It is extremely hard. It feels like when you first put them on the bus in kindergarden and had no control of their lives anymore. Here is what I know now, after he has been through it. They will not get hurt or injured. They find friends in the Corp who help them through. They hate and respect and love their drill Sargent at the same time. The time will go slowly for you, but quickly for him. What they go through will develop their marine character. I have to say, my son enjoyed bootcamp and finds most of what he is going through now, not as rigorous. None of the guys are allowed to fail at anything, which is a real character builder.
For you, you need to read everything you can about his experience. Write letters daily. Save them until you get his address. If you don't hear from him it is ok. No news is good news. My son only wrote once a week and he never complained. Don't send anything except letters, comics, articles, only what he asks for. You will get through it and then graduation will be the BEST thing ever. Good luck to you and him. The marines really do make men.
