My son left for Parris Island on January 3rd. . . I am very proud and I know he will be fine but it was extremely hard to see him go. . . It would be nice if other parents of recruits heading to P.I. today would post their thoughts.

Hi Kathy,
My son left around the same time your son did. His flights were canceled 2 days in a row and then finally I got a call that he had arrived...the phone call bothered me, because it was loud, short, and hard to hear. Today I finally received my first letter from him! He has made it through the first 2 weeks. It was hard for me to see my son go too, but I am also extremely proud!

Hi Dawn,
At least you received the call. . . I didn't hear from my son at all for just about 2 weeks. That must have been the worst two weeks of my life. . .lol. . .however now we have just a few short weeks until graduation!!!

Hi,
My Husband left for Parris island Jan 3rd as well. I sure had a lot going through my head at the time. I was suppose to receive a phone call but of course never got it but I talked to his recruit and got his address and immediately sent out the letters I had started to write. I believe it was Jan. 12 that I received 3 letters from him. They must of held his letters. All I can think about is that the first month is almost over and soon enough boot camp will be over. He is scheduled to graduate April 1st ! Hope all goes as planned. I have a count down till family day March 31st and starting tomorrow there are only 69 days left!!

Hi,
So sorry it has taken so long to reply. . .I did not get the phone call that first few days and was just miserable worrying about my son. However, after two weeks I started receiving letters. By now you have probably received tons of letters as I have. Only a few short weeks left and we will be able to see our boys!!

Hi Kathy, I know the feeling. One thing I didn't know was to send stamps as soon as you get his first letter. Another thing is don't worry if he writes saying that he hasn't got any of your letters, even though at that point you probably have sent at least 5 :) They don't receive any of our letters at least during the first 3 weeks. Don't panic! I know I did, thinking that I maybe got the wrong address or they were holding my letters.
