Week 10- Boot Camp Training

Posted By: Edith Ross 10-23-10

My daughter is now in her 10th week of boot camp and is graduating on November 5th 2010. Her letters are so inspiring and uplifting. The training is very tough, but she's keeping a positive attitude and is staying focused throughout. In the beginning her letters were very depressing and difficult for me to read. She cried a lot and wanted to come home. Now she's very excited at how much she's accomplished and the discipline she's learned while in boot camp. She's over come every obstacle thus far and is achieving her dream of becoming a United States Marine. There were times when she was challenged and had to do things multiple times until she was able to pass but she did it. Those drill instructors are tough but they push our children to the max and pull out of them what they didn't know they had inside of them. I want to encourage all parents who have loved ones in the Marines to stay strong and the best thing you can do is write, write, write and write some more. Keep encouraging them and supporting them the entire way. Never think for a moment they don't need you anymore and you don’t' have to write as much. I write as many as 3 letters a week before I get one from her. My letters help her make it through the next challenge because I inspire her through each letter. I encourage you not to write anything upsetting or depressing because they don't need anything bringing their spirits down. In the beginning I cried at times while writing her but she would never know it from the tone of my letter. I love my daughter so much and I'm so proud of her. I'm happy she made the decision on her own to join the Marines and I supported her every step of the way even when I didn't understand why she chose this path. I can truly say today that I'm glad she chose to go into the Marines vs. college because now she's talking about going to college when at first she didn't want anything to do with school. The Marines have changed her in a way I never could. Parents, wives, husbands, friends and family, BE ENCOURAGED. I thank God for this website and the support and comments I've received along the way. I hope this post encourages and inspires someone as others have done for me. Be blessed and keep the FAITH.
