He left Sept. 13th, received the "I'm here" call. No letter yet. It does help to read from all of you. My daughter is away at University, talking to the cat a lot! I know once I get the 1st letter I will feel better. He is living his dream!

Hi - My son is going for his physical tomorrow. I am also a single mom - this is somewhat rough. I want to support him but I also want him to change his mind. I am so very proud through it all. I talked to his recruiter this morning and told him that it is starting to sink in about all this. For 17 years I have supported my son, fought his battles, protected him from harm and now I am turning him over to the Marines so they can beat him up. Gosh, I think I need some kind of dispensation so that I can go to boot camp with him. :)

I am also a mom of an only child. You can say I am a single mom to him also. And your right, you fight to keep them safe for 18 years then you have to let them go off to "make them tougher". Very hard. But am so proud of my son its overwhelming sometimes. Good luck to you and your son.

Hi Suzanne, it's so funny cuz although I'm not a single mom, my daughter is at University as well and we have a cat who I talk to about my son. I have received a letter so that's good and I'm sure you'll get your's soon if you haven't by the time you read my post. I wonder if our son's are in the same platoon. Mine is in 3rd BN, Mike Co, PLT 3097. Write me back and let me know. Would love to stay in touch as we cheer on our Marine Recruits. Jan
