My son left on Sept 13 headed to Parris Island to start boot camp, and I had been told to wait on the call from him so I did... There was never a phone call. I as a mother wanted those few seconds to hear my son's voice to tell me I am here and I am ok.

My son was supposed to arrive at Parris Island Sept. 19, 2011. Today is the 22nd and we have not yet recieved a call. Also, until he sends us the address is there any way we can start writing to him anyway?

My son made it to boot camp on 9/12 at Parris Island. My phone wrang that night at 0156 and we were disconnected prior to any words being said. This has been hard for me as I too looked forward to that call. I have decided to focus on the idea that I know where he is, he is in good hands, and he is where he wants to be. His heart is dedicated to serving in the Marine Corp and I am proud of his dedication.

My son left July 18 and I could not sleep but laid with the phone beside me until 2:18 when I gave up. needless to say, I was very disappointed. I called his recruiter the next day to assure his processing and he confirmed that. How is your son doing now?

My son left yesterday for boot camp. I did not receive a phone call either. I waited all night to hear my son's voice & receive that call. I'm wondering how come it never came as well.

Cyndi, my son left for Parris Island on Sept 13th. He is in the 3rd BN, Mike Co Platoon 3097. Have you heard from your son yet? We got the form letter on 9/22 (we live in NH) and both my husband and I along with his girlfriend have received some correspondence. I did not receive the phone call, my husband answered it as I was out of town. It was a scary call..so robotic but that's what was to be expected. The letters are much better. Hope you are well and coping with the absence. Takes adjustment but I find personally that writing daily helps me feel connected.

I never received a phone call from my fiance but I'm a little relieved because from what I've heard/read about the call all they do is scream "I'm here" and hang up. I think that would've been hard for me to hear. I got my first letter after 2 weeks exactly. I hear they have a really close eye on the recruits so don't worry, he is in good hands.

If it makes you feel better Cyndi I didn't get that phone call until a week later. I called his recruiter 3 times and didn't get any response. I have received 3 letters now and I still worry. I don't think it gets easier I miss my son. He has wanted to do this for 6 years now and he just graduated in June so he's living his dream. I just hope it's all he wanted it to be.

Family
Cyndi,
Our daughter arrived at Parris Island on September 8. We just got her first letter (form letter with a little, quick personal note) today on Friday, Sept. 17. If you go to http://www.mcrdpi.usmc.mil/training/schedule.asp, you will see the training schedule and can even click the "Print Version" link on the right side to download a one page copy of the complete schedule for boot camp. It looks like he landed on the Monday of the four day receiving period. I think the recruits arrive over those four days and then right after that they go to their training platoons on Thursday for females and Thursday/Friday for males. His first real scheduled day would be the following Tuesday, according to the schedule. I know that doesn't make up for not getting the phone call.

Cyndi, the phone call that they make of them saying i have reached sand diego is the worse phone call anhy parent or spouse wants to hear trust me. I recieved that phone call from my boyfriend and it was the worse cause it didnt even sound like him and it was only 10 seconds long and all they say is hi my name is blah blah and i have arrived to paris island blah blah goodbye. You cant say anything back. Right when i was going to say i love you he had already hung up. After that phone call i was miserable all i could do was cry my eyes out and replay that call in my head. Thats the worse call anyone can get.

Cyndi,
My son left on 08/06/2010 for boot camp to Parris Island. He sprained his ankle the first week of training so that has pushed hi graduation date back a week. He will graduate Nov 12 (God willing) The first two weeks were the hardest, I pretty much cried everyday. It will get easier. I know the unknown is the worst.
When you start receiving letters that will help a lot. I have tried to be very upbeat and positve. when writing him. The first four weeks the letters were sometimes tough. Now his letters are very upbeat and he says he loves it.The hardest thing for me was to try to be strong and happy for him even though I was so sad inside.I hope this helps you, take care and God bless your son
