Believe me I thought when my son left 2 years ago now for bootcamp was hard, but he has now left for Japan. I should be grateful for that he is not in harms way like so many of them are. Does it get any better the longer they are in. This will be the first Birthday (21st) and First Christmas that I will not be spending with my son. Is it so wrong to be upset that I can not spend time on these special days. This past Monday my oldest leaves for Japan and his younger brother started Freshman ROTC program not as a Marine but in the Army. And he keeps telling me mom I am going to be just like my brother. Please do not get me wrong I am the proudest mother on this earth but part of me keeps asking why my boys?

Marie,
My son just left for Okinawa in August 2011 & trust me I feel everyday lime Im losing it. I hope that it does get easier cause Im making myself sick. I know he loves what hes doing, having fun, & is experiencing things that are great. But like you this will be our 1st Birthday, Christmas all holidays without him & it is heart wenching to say the lesat. Iam hoping that since this was last year that you wrote this that is does get easier & that it does not take a long time for that to happen.

As the mom of 6 with 4 that have served in Desert Storm, Bosnia, Liberia and other places... and now our youngest is deployed to Afghanistan, I can tell you that you can just rely on God to be with them every step of the way. My youngest spent his 6 months in Okinawa and really enjoyed it for the most part. There is, of course, lots of hard training, but they have free time as well and can call home often. I know you are very proud of your son....me too.

Marie, our son has been away from home since his highschool graduation four years ago. He has been a Marine for almost 2 years now and he is heading to Okinawa, Japan at the end of this month. It does get easier the longer they are away but it makes it even more special when they are able to come home. We are very excited for his new adventure and hope that we can visit him while he is stationed there.
