My son Matthew left on Aug 23rd for Camp Pendleton. The first week he was gone was hard on us since we never got the first phone call home. That's about all we could think about..... your mind starts thinking of all the reasons why he didn't call. Did he get in trouble already? did he dial wrong? Is he OK? I wouldn't have worried if the recruiter hadn't told us to expect a call from him the night he gets there. We waited for the first letter and finally it came on Sept. 3rd. It was a short letter but it sounded like he is doing OK. It helped put our minds at ease... I didnt think it would bother me to have him gone but it has been really hard. I am so proud of him for serving and putting his time in.

Oh, I don't know what I would have done if I didn't get the "I arrived ok" phone call. That must have been terrible! I'm glad you received your letter. We are still waiting for ours, I hope it arrives soon.
