I was on my way to class. I'm in high school now, and I was in the 9th grade at the time. I saw a Marine Recruiter in his uniform - the blue one with red line going down the trousers and with the kaki shirt and it was just something about the Recruiter that stood out to me. I did my homework, and I'm joining the Marines straight out of high school. I'm in the 11th grade now.

Mother
Hi Alan,
When my son decided to enlist , he joined a gym, ran 5-8 miles every day, 7 days a week. After his body became conditioned to running, he purchased a weighted vest that weighed 40 lbs. He began to run with the vest on, because in boot camp, he knew that he would be running with a backpack that is even heavier than that. I knew that he was totally committed because he took the time to get in shape, read and memorized the 11 general orders and the Marine rank structure. He was seriously ready when the day came.
Alan, joining the Marines is a decision that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Work hard to prepare and get support of your parents. I wish you well, and a safe and rewarding journey.
