Just received my first letter from my son and wrote my first one back. Of course there are tears. It took me a while to share it. Although it was standard instructions, it gave many emotions inside me that I cannot explain. I wrote back. All words of encouragement of course. Our children are doing something we know that a lot of individuals can not or will not do. It is a great honor that deserves much respect. Although we are their family, they have another family now, as I told my son. Many of brother Marines and Sister Marines. I told him to embrace them. For as I will always be here, so are they for him as he is in return.

Hi Catherine:
It's so true. Our son's do now have another family. My son left Aug. 9. One month tomorrow! I am so looking forward to November. I'm still digesting the fact that life will never be the same again. That I will only see my son sporadically. The fact that that time has come to let him spread his wings and soar! I am sooooo proud. So many mixed emotions. Mostly pride and happiness for him though.
