I know this will sound "funny" but what I miss about my son, Matt, being home is our ability to text message. I can't send him an "I love you" or "have a great day". We worked different shifts so I didn't really see a whole lot of him; now we're a week into basic training and all I want is a "hi mom, love you".

Hi Theresa, I feel the same way. Zak & I text everyday all day long. We moved to Jaxville Fl from Atl 3 months before he left for basic. Zak stayed in Atl w our friend because he didn't want to quit his job @ Kroger. They keep his job for him no matter how long he is in the military. I'm not sure if this is some kind of federal law. Not sure how all that works. Now I have no communication & feel lost. But this too shall pass. So proud. Be proud.
Thanks Tina

Hi Theresa:
My son, Dan, left Aug. 9. I can't believe it's a month 2morrow. I can relate to the text messaging. If Dan was out and about and I saw a beautiful moon, I would text him "moon". He would text back "I know, gorgeous" because he loved to look at the moon and stars at night. or even just LUL - love you lots. I've gotten two letters so far and one phone call. It took about two weeks. Not the form letter, a real letter. When that first letter came, you would have thought the prize patrol arrived at my house! Hang in there. Your letter will come.

Funny, I thought you were my wife posting this comment. Our son Matthew left on Aug 23rd, we sent text messages all the time to each other so I know what you are talking about. I keep telling myself that he is getting the training that he needs and he will be just fine.

That doesn't sound funny at all, I know exactly how you feel. I'm only on my first night without my son and I havel already reached for my phone to text my son and caught myself :(
