Week 4 of Boot Camp

Posted By: Edith Ross 09-02-10

My daughter is now in her 4th week of boot camp and it sounds as if things are starting to get a little better. I received a letter from her on 09/01/2010 and it was more up lifting than the others I received prior. She said her run time is getting better and better and she's starting to adjust to the culture of the Corps. Her letters are still short but at least she's not crying as much and is showing a lot of progress. She said it's still hard but she's getting stronger and stronger everyday. I want to encourage everyone who has children in the boot camp to keep praying for them because they all need our prayers. For the parents whose children are in phase one of their training and just getting started, be encouraged. My husband is a Marine and he told me the tone of the letters in the beginning are going to be sad and depressing. He said that's because they are breaking them down mentally and getting them out of their comfort zone. He said the tone of the letters will start to change around the 4th or 5th week and he was right. The letter I received yesterday was the first up lifting letter my daughter has wrote since she's been there. I really appreciate all of the comments that people have sent me and they are really helping me get through this season of my life. Please be encouraged and know that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Let's keep praying for our children because they need all our support.

Be Blessed

Hi Edith:
My son left for boot on Aug. 9. I can't believe it's a month 2morrow! I got my second letter from him yesterday and he sounds great. He is holding onto his faith and looking forward to the new things coming up that he's going to learn. I'm still amazed that we've reached this point in life. You know when we have to let our kids spread their wings and fly. I'm so proud though. It takes so much courage to join the Marines. I wonder if people realize that part. Your daughter will be so much stronger as time goes by. My son is in plt. 1086. It sounds like your daughter left the same day! My prayers never stop, I promise you. Our kids, no matter how far from us, are never alone.

Is your Daughter at Parris Island now also? My son is and I am trying to find out his graduation and family days. I am pretty sure it is 11/03/10. I am trying to make sure I can be off work and make it. He had given me the info but now I am starting to doubt myself. He told me before he even went it. That was 08/09/10. Do you know where I can find the dates I am looking for?

You husband is exactly right. From the time my boyfriend left for boot camp until the time I got his 1st letter, I prayed every night that he was happy & not miserable & that he was still proud of the decision he made. When I got the first letter that said he wanted to find a way out of boot camp & wanted to be home & regretted his decision, it broke my heart. As time went on & he started getting mail & knowing that everything at home was ok, he got more comfortable. The homesickness never went away, but it got easier. He cried every Sunday in church but now that he is graduated & home, he could not be prouder of that decision to join the Marine Corps. Boot camp is the toughest part. Looking back, that time flew by! Thank you to you for giving your daughter, and to your daughter as well as your husband, for fighting for our country! May God Bless you all
