My only Son has served four years with three combat deployments. He is now IRR! When my son went through boot I was lost at first. I took to my computer searching for any tiny tidbit of information. This site did not exist! I accidentally found MarineParents.com...... There I found the support and information I craved. People whose children had also left them with a great void and uncertainty. I found myself connected to Mothers whose sons were in my son's Platoon. Oh happy day. We met each other 13 weeks later face to face at MCRD!!! It was family day in more ways than one. My son received his EGA and became a United States Marine!!!! I received a new larger family of Marine Parents. We have stayed in touch over the years. Also we have moved on to meet others that have traveled the journey along side of us. When one was weak the other gave strength. Our Marines have a bond that most will never know. Marine Mothers and Fathers share a bond most will never know as well. I am glad to see that the Marine Corps is now following the lead that was started by just one Mom meeting a few other for coffee one day. My time as an active duty mom is coming to an end. Others are ready and willing to stand in my stead as another young son will step up and stand in my son's. I would not trade this experience for anything.
